Case Study:

The Body Shop website highlights their belief that there is only one way to beautiful... nature’s way.

Reducing environmental impact

We are delighted to be associated with The Body Shop, one of the most environmentally friendly companies in the country. We whole-heartedly support this approach to sustainability and have promoted it in all our contracts over several years.

MAR Services has investigated environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional cleaning products. An example range is Ecover™ products, because they use no petrochemical-based ingredients and biodegrade completely causing no harm to the environment.

MAR Services has worked in partnership with The Body Shop to reduce the company’s overall carbon footprint and have successfully introduced a number of initiatives which have created environmental improvements in areas which we can influence.

An example of this is the introduction of micro fibre cloths which pick up dirt by static electricity, without the need for a cleaning product. They can be washed and reused up to 100 times without loss of effectiveness.

Working on a large complex site such as The Body Shop requires flexibility and attention to detail in the way we operate, particularly where we aim to reduce a client’s carbon footprint as well as our own. Efficient scheduling and flow-cleaning can be used as a way to reduce electricity consumption by minimising out-of-hours use of electricity and lighting. Modern cleaning techniques mean we can use a smaller amount of chemicals and those we do use are greener. The newest cleaning machines use less energy and incorporate the most efficient environmental filtering. Ordering chemicals in concentrated form minimises the amount of packaging required.

Although we achieved ISO 14001 accreditation, there is more to it than having an effective environmental management system in place. We want to demonstrate an ethical policy and corporate social responsibility in the way we operate.
